Mrs. Georgia Pitsiou is Pulmonologist, "G. Papanikolaou" General Hospital, Thessaloniki.




Lecturer of Pneumonology, in Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she works in Respiratory Failure Unit of Gen. Hospital “G. Papanikolaou”. After obtaining her medical degree from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, she specialized  in  Pneumonology  and  in Intensive Care Medicine  in  Respiratory  Failure  Unit and in the polyvalent  Intensive  Care  Unit  of  G.H.  "G. Papanikolaou", respectively.

She obtained her Doctorate  Thesis  Degree from  the  Aristotle  University  of  Thessaloniki in 1999, on the subject “The  influence  of  tissue  oxygenation  on  nutrition  and  dyspnea   of  patients  with  COPD”. She got six  months  training  in  transthoracic  and  transesophageal  echocardiography, in  Cardiology  Clinic,  Aristotle  University  of  Thessaloniki,  in General  University  Hospital  “AHEPA”. She has attended for six months the Respiratory Rehabilitation Department of Foundation S. Maugeri in Pavia. She has also attended the International Master in Pulmonary Vascular Diseases of the University of Bologna and obtained the Master Degree after examination in 2010.

Physician in charge of the pulmonary hypertension programme in Respiratory Failure Unit, G.H. “G. Papanikolaou”. Respiratory Failure Unit monitors over 250 patients per year with pulmonary hypertension, mainly due to chronic lung disease, from all over Northern Greece.

Her main scientific interest lies in the field of pulmonary circulation and also in echocardiography and exercise physiology in pulmonary hypertension with international publications and participation in multicenter phase III international studies. She participates in six Scientific Societies with multiple presentations in International and Greek national Congresses.
